Mineral Makeup on Camera High Def?

I first met Melissa Street at the Makeup Show in LA when I was part of the beauty blogger's panel. Melissa is a professional makeup artist (check out her work at http://www.epicmakeup.com/) veteran of 20 years, and specializes in High Definition and special effects makeup.

It's no secret that most mineral makeup does not photograph well. The zinc oxide and titanium dioxide that isn't visible to the naked eye will reflect the light and give a whitish cast. Pitty, since most the stuff that works well for photography isn't very comfortable, nor the slightest bit decent for your skin. Melissa and I started yapping on Twitter (shocker), and I sent her some samples to try out. Mostly, I sent them for her personal use, as well as for her daughter's. I never expected her to try them professionally! Well, ok, I did send her one product to try on High Definition (it's super secret because I'm not carrying it yet; she was my tester) as it should be superior to MUFE HD powder.

Today, she posted on her blog InMyProfessionalOpinion, a review of my products. Did I know she was doing a review? You bet. Did I know she was doing a review of the whole kit and kaboodle on a photo shoot High Def? No way, Jose! BTW, high def is much less forgiving than regular camera - every leetle detail (and flaw) shows up! I knew that my Skin Smoothing formula had a shot of working on camera, as well as the Pure Silk powder, since silk reflects light most closely to natural skin, but never even ventured to consider high def. What did Melissa use?
  • Silk & Pearl Powder Primer
  • Foundation
  • Blushing blush
  • Cream to Powder eye shadows
  • Loose powder shadows both in matte and shimmer shades

How did I fare? I'm not gonna tell you. Go read it here. And follow Melissa on Twitter (@InMyProOpinion).

Are You A Deserving Mom?

We're honored to say that we are a part of one heck of a contest for one very special, deserving mom out there. Are you that special person, or do you know someone who is?

Check out A Girl's Gotta Spa's Get Glamourous Giveaway. Shannon Nelson has put together a sweepstakes package for one very lucky mom. Shannon, a mother herself of young boys with special needs while managing a career, knows how trying life can be, and how just a little something special can carry somebody a long, long way. Well this is not just something "special" like a few goodies thrown together at the last minute - you're looking at a prize package worth nearly $2300!!!

For a booty like that, you know this isn't just for some random person who posts a comment on her blog. Shannon, along with 3 other judges, are looking for that very deserving mom: one who has overcome adversity, who puts everyone else's needs before hers (hence this super-duper pamper package), who goes the extra mile. The contest begins today, and continues through May 26th. If you want to enter, or nominate someone else, visit Shannon's blog and details here.
